The Älvsbacka vicinity is delightful. From the Södra Halla grounds you can walk straight into the woods, where there are various marked paths, so you won’t get lost. Two large lakes are located about 750m and just over 1km from the house. 3km away there is a shallow lake with a sandy beach, a paradise for everyone, young and old.

Värmland has a many locations of varied natural beauty. The Klarälven River is the largest in Sweden, and is suitable for canoeing and rafting with children. The countryside is a mixture of marsh, lakes, beech woods and pine woods. You might see an elk… Campfires, hours of walking without meeting a soul, survival trips, horse riding in the open countryside … that’s Värmland.

The small towns of Molkom and Munkfors are about 10 minutes drive away. Here can be found supermarkets, various other shops, the doctors’ clinic etc.

In Sunne (about 60 km away), the house of Selma Lagerlöf, a famous Swedish writer is definitely worth a visit…

If you have children, a trip to Vattenland, a water paradise, will certainly be a success.

Karlstad, the Vӓrmland county seat is about 35 minutes drive away. It has a university, cathedral, museums, and an attractive shopping centre. Karlstad is known as the sunniest town in Sweden, and its emblem is a smiling sun…

A visit to the Lars Lerin Museum is certainly worthwhile. He’s a famous Swedish painter, with a permanent exhibition in ‘Sandgrund Lars Lerin’.

The children can ride Iceland ponies in the woods at Kalvbergåsens, or go horse-riding at one of the many riding stables in the vicinity…

Stockholm is further away. It’s about a four hours drive, but definitely worth the trip.
